Visit of the British Armed Forces Minister to Azerbaijan

British Armed Forces Minister James Heappey will travel to Baku for a one-day visit, Trend reported citing the British Embassy in Azerbaijan.

The visit will include meetings with Azerbaijani Defense Minister Colonel General Zakir Hasanov and Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.

The main topics of discussion will be the possibilities of expanding defense cooperation between the UK and Azerbaijan in the year of the 30th anniversary of bilateral relations between the UK and Azerbaijan, outstanding issues related to the conflict with Armenia and the state of the peace process.

The Minister will also discuss mine clearance cooperation and visit Martyr’s Alley.

Azerbaijan and the UK cooperate in different areas of the economy. There are already 30 years of fruitful cooperation between the two countries in the oil and gas sector, which has entered a new stage of development in line with the challenges of the global energy sector. The energy sector accounts for $28.8 billion of the $30.6 billion British investment in the Azerbaijani economy. The UK is also the biggest investor in Azerbaijan.

It should be noted that the commercial turnover between the two countries amounted to 667.8 dollars in 2021.
