Truro police catch ‘gunman’ threatening bystanders

Police have been called to reports that an ‘armed man’ was threatening a village near Truro today. Devon and Cornwall Police responded to reports just before 11am today (Friday April 1) of a man claiming to have been armed.

It was also alleged that he was threatening a passerby in the Ruan Lanihorne area, south of Truro. Officers and armed response units were sent to the area and a cordon was put in place to locate the man in question.

Officers manage to arrest the man around 12:40 p.m. Fortunately, the case was resolved peacefully.

He is currently being assessed by paramedics and arrangements are being made for a mental health specialist to assist him, to ensure the detained man has access to the support he needs. Police investigations are continuing into this case.

A police spokesman said: “Police were called just before 11am with reports that a man claimed to be armed and was threatening a bystander in the Ruan Lanihorne area, south of Truro.

“Officers and armed response units were sent to the area and a cordon was put in place to locate the man in question. Police managed to arrest the man at around 12:40 p.m. after the matter was resolved peacefully.

“He is currently being assessed by paramedics and arrangements are being made for a mental health specialist to assist him, to ensure the detained man has access to the support he needs.”
