The Crime Blotter: Independent Investigation into Officers Who Shot Federal Way Gunman

A man armed with a knife was shot dead by police in Federal Way Transit Center Sunday night.

According to the Federal Way Police Department (FWPD), officers were called to the transit center just before 9 p.m. after a man refused to get off a bus. Callers reported to 911 dispatchers that the man, a 54-year-old man from Soap Lake, appeared to be under the influence and possibly suffering from a mental health crisis.

When the man exited the bus, police said he charged officers with a knife, “forcing officers to respond with their duty weapons.”

The man was shot and responding officers gave him first aid until medics arrived, before being pronounced dead at the scene.

No officers were injured.

A total of nine officers were involved in the shooting and they are now on administrative leave, which is standard protocol.

The shooting is being investigated by the Valley Independent Investigation Team.

Woman killed in Federal Way shooting

A woman has died from her injuries after being shot Monday night in Federal Way.

At 11:22 p.m., officers were called to report gunshots near the 4600 block of SW 320th St.

About 10 minutes later, as officers searched the area, a 19-year-old woman with gunshot wounds arrived at St. Francis Hospital in a private vehicle. Medical personnel treated her, but she died in hospital.

Officers believe the shooting occurred in the 32100 block of 46th Place SW. Investigators have yet to determine what led to the shooting or identify any suspects.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Section of the Federal Way Police Department are assisting in the investigation.

Man shot in Everett Park recovers in hospital

A man was shot in a park in Everett and police are looking for a suspect, according to the Everett Police Department.

Around 1 p.m. Monday, officers responded to a report of a shooting at Henry M. Jackson Park in the 1700 block of State Street.

When officers arrived, they found an injured man with non-life-threatening injuries.

The man was taken to hospital and the incident is still under investigation.
