Authorities say police fatally shot a gunman who allegedly pointed a gun at a Walmart store employee in North Carolina
CHARLOTTE, North Carolina — Police fatally shot a gunman who was apparently threatening a Walmart store employee in North Carolina, authorities said Friday.
The man was later pronounced dead in hospital, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said in a Twitter post. No officers were injured, according to the tweet.
A security guard at a Walmart store on the east side of Charlotte told officers a man pointed a gun at him and also threatened to shoot officers if they responded, according to a statement from police press.
As officers approached the man, they perceived a “deadly threat” and fired at the man, according to the police statement. He said officers tried to save the man until emergency medical personnel arrived. Police also said a firearm was recovered from the scene.
The names of the officers involved and the deceased man have been withheld pending notification of the family, police said.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation has taken over the investigation into the shooting, police said.
