Gunman surrenders after long standoff, shooting Coral Springs home – NBC 6 South Florida

An armed suspect who opened fire before barricading himself at a Coral Springs home on Friday surrendered hours later, officials said.

Coral Springs Police said the incident began around 8 a.m. when the 25-year-old suspect showed up at his mother’s home in the Wiles Road and Creekside Drive area.

The suspect was upset by a car accident he was involved in and argued with his mother, police said.

At one point, the man pulled out a gun and put it on a counter, and his mother felt threatened so she left and called the police, officials said.

When police arrived, the man threatened to kill someone or to be killed himself, police said.

Officers heard the man fire several shots inside the house, and he came out and fired more rounds before barricading himself in the house, officials said.

No injuries were reported and authorities said the man was alone in the house.

Late Friday afternoon, the man surrendered without incident, officials said. Charges are pending.

No other information was immediately known.
