Gunman shot dead as he tried to force his way home, police say

A suspected intruder was shot and killed during an attempted home invasion of an apartment complex in Gahanna, Ohio on Sunday night, police said.

A resident of the 800 Block of Falcon Hunter Way called 911 to report a shooting at around 8:31 p.m.

The man who reported the incident told police someone knocked on his door and while responding, a man with a gun tried to push his way through. It was then that the man living in the apartment said he shot the suspect and observed a second man running away. .

When Gahanna’s agents responded to the scene, they found two men living in the apartment and a man on the ground with a chest injury.

Officers performed CPR until relieved by Mifflin Township medics. The shot man was then taken to Mt. Carmel East Hospital, but was pronounced dead shortly after.

Police continue to investigate the incident, including those involved. They will work with the Franklin County Coroner’s Office to determine the suspected suspect’s cause of death, as well as his identity.
