Drone helps capture gunman leaving victim’s home, fleeing Volusia deputies

A drone from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office flying overhead helped deputies quickly catch an alleged armed suspect who jumped out of a bedroom window as he tried to evade arrest .

According to deputies, they were escorting a woman to Urbana Ave. in Deltona on Monday after the victim said the suspect, Johnathan Hernandez, 27, said he had come to her house to shoot her hours earlier.

“Overnight, the victim reported that the suspect texted her saying he was going to her house to shoot her. For her safety, the victim left the house for the night. deputies responded to check and clean the house for before she came inside,” the sheriff’s office said.

As the deputies made announcements at the front door, another deputy operating a drone overhead spotted someone exiting the back bedroom window, running into the backyard and jumping a fencing.

Hernandez was taken into custody. Deputies say his backpack contained a loaded gun.

Hernandez was charged with armed robbery, uttering written threats of death or bodily harm, and resisting an officer without violence.

He is being held in the Volusia County Jail on $20,500 bond.
