The armed conflict between government troops and Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) is no longer confined to the SPMS area, but has intensified in the adjacent municipalities of Datu Hoffer Ampatuan and the boundaries of the municipalities of Guindulungan and South Upi. Recently, the municipalities of Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Mamasapano, Shariff Saydona Mustafa and Talitay were placed under a state of calamity. According to the UNDSS report, the last related armed meeting, in particular between the Islamic Liberation Front Moro-Islamic Armed Forces Bangsamoro and the BIFF, took place on April 11, 2021 in Barangay Tuayan of Datu Hoffer Ampatuan Municipality, making four victims.

These displaced people come from the municipalities of Datu Hoffer, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Datu Salibo, Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Datu Unsay, Guindulungan, Kabuntalan, Mamasapano, Shariff Aguak, Shariff Saydona Mustapha and Talitay. The exact number of IDPs returned remains to be determined.
