DAWN | Aurora Police said officers shot and killed a 31-year-old man wielding a gun in flats in the 1300 block of Idalia Court on Friday morning.

Public Information Officer Matthew Longshore said around 4:30 a.m. multiple 911 callers reported a Hispanic man wearing a black hoodie was armed with a gun and knocking on apartment doors.

When police arrived, they tried unsuccessfully to communicate with him in English and Spanish, Longshore said.

“After giving the man several orders, officers fired their weapons at the man,” Longshore said.

Longshore said he did not know if the suspect fired his weapon.

First responders attempted to resuscitate the man, but he died at the scene, police said.

“The two Aurora officers who fired their weapons were equipped with department-provided body cameras, which will be used in this ongoing investigation,” police said in a statement. “They have both been placed on paid administrative leave in accordance with department policy.”

The 18th Judicial District’s Critical Incident Response Team is now leading the investigation due to officer involvement, which is standard state procedure.

The man’s identity is expected to be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office at a later date.
