An armed man barricades himself in Surprise; the police took him into custody after hours of waiting

Surprise Police officers worked to arrest a man armed with a gun as they negotiated with him from his home on Tuesday February 15.

The police say the suspect was inside a house near 181st Drive and Maui Lane, barricading himself with a gun. Prior to the clash which began around 8 a.m., police said he “acted erratically, waving his knife and yelling at passing vehicles. When officers arrived, the suspect began to throwing stones at the police and ran inside his house”.

Initially, the unidentified suspect communicated with negotiators, but suddenly stopped.

“After several hours of relentless attempts at negotiation, officers were able to take the suspect into custody without further incident,” police said.
